Match Fishing

Pike matches alongside clubs are one of the best ways to get together with fellow Pike Anglers. Matches offer newcomers to Pike Angling the opportunity to fish new venues and pick up tips and try a range of methods in the quest for catching Pike for the weigh in.

Pike matches also help in the quest for confident and safe handling of Pike. This can be achieved by new Pike Anglers being able to see well established Pike Anglers confidently handle and unhook Pike at the bank. In addition to watching Pike being unhooked new Pike Anglers will find that the established Pike Anglers will gladly help them with the unhooking of any Pike they get to the bank.

Pike matches are mainly held as qualifying matches for the British Pike Championships Final. These matches along with the final have been going for over 30 years. The Pike final is now run by the Angling Trust and has aided in raising funds for the Angling Trust, to use in their quest for protecting our right to fish . Pike matches are also run by other Angling Clubs and venues these include Whittlesey AA, Bury Hill Fisheries and the Cambridge PAC Marie Curie Predator Cup. To find matches in your area, the best place to check is on the Angling Trust website, alternatively check with your local clubs to find out if they host any private matches.
